Fluoride Treatment Benefits

It works by making the teeth more resistant to acids and bacteria that may be inside your mouth. Fluoride also advances tooth remineralization which can repair early tooth issues before a cavity forms.

Fluoride Treatment Process

At your dental visits, the doctor may recommend a fluoride treatment if you are at risk for cavity development. The fluoride, which may consist of a foam, gel, or varnish, is applied directly to the teeth and is left to sit for a few minutes, so it can be absorbed. There is no pain or discomfort, and it leaves your mouth feeling clean and fresh.

What is Fluoride?

Fluoride is found naturally in many foods and water, and is a safe way to protect your tooth enamel. Although it is also available in many over-the-counter toothpastes and mouth rinses, the fluoride at the dentist’s office is stronger and more effective. Fluoride treatments are common for many patients and are a regular part of a dental cleaning.
